In the PYP the written curriculum is arranged within six "transdisciplinary themes". While the themes are universal and applicable to all cultures, the expectation is that there are certain core values, skills and knowledge for international schools, students and educators. For example, the international school curriculum should have “global significance—for all students in all cultures."
Dunya school Grade 1 students will inquire the following topics during each unit.
Who we are - Rights and Responsibilities
Where we are in place and time - Personal Histories
How we express ourselves - Stories
How the world works - Simple machines
How we organize ourselves - Transportation systems
Sharing the planet - Water
We are currently doing the first unit - "Who we are". We have been learning and inquiring about Rights and responsibilities of individuals in the society. The kids understand that the children and adults have different roles and rights. They will compare the changing rights and responsibilities while we are growing.
